Oliver Kannape​​

As the Director of the Virtual Medicine Centre at the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), Dr Oliver Kannape coordinates the use of medical XR for patient care, clinical research, and medical training. A cognitive scientist by training, he bridges the gap between industry, academia, and healthcare to translate fundamental research to the clinical environment. With more than 15 years of international research experience, notably at EPFL and the MIT Media Lab, education, and industry, at MindMaze SA, Dr Kannape leads collaborative efforts between scientists, engineers, and physicians, to develop novel XR interventions and validate them in clinical studies.

Dr Kannape’s work has been published in high-impact journals including Nature Communications and Current Biology and has been featured in media outlets such as the BBC, The New York Times, and New Scientist, and demoed live at the TED conference. His research is supported by national and international research and innovation grants, and he received the 2019 Pfizer Research prize for his VR study with awake sleepwalkers. Dr Kannape is a founding member of AMXRA, the American Medical Extended Reality Association, and inaugural member of the editorial advisory board of its publication JMXRA.
